“Family Day” is a national initiative created by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse to promote simple acts of parental engagement as key ways to help prevent risky substance use in children and teens. This resource gives you access to a free activity kit, conversation starters for you and your family, facts and information about drug and alcohol use and more insight from their news and blog forum.
Nine out of 10 Americans who meet the medical criteria for addiction started smoking, drinking, or using other drugs before age 18. Use this resource to start engaging with your child today. You may also be interested in the “Talk. They Hear You” app.
How to Use
Start learning by clicking on the blue boxes below The Center’s Family Day’s mission statement.

When you’re ready to expand your search on the resource, click on the “Get Active” tab at the top of the page. You’ll then see user options, including “I am a Parent”.
Click on the “I am a Parent” tab to activate a list of ideas to help you become more engaged with your adolescent and even start a family day event or challenge. All of the information is listed with a description and the colored text indicates a link that you can click on to access even more details.
