Al-Anon Family Group Locator

  • Online Tool
  • Community Resource
Parents of young adolescents (12-16),   Parents of older teens/young adults (17-25)

Al-Anon Family Groups are located worldwide and provide support for those affected by someone else’s drinking. Held at many local sites, including treatment and community centers, hospitals, and churches, Al-Anon Family Groups are based on the 12 steps of Narcotics Anonymous and provide family members with an opportunity to share their experiences and listen to others. This resource lets you search for a Al-Anon Meeting anywhere in the United States.

Tip

Al-Anon offers groups specifically for grandparents and siblings too. Learn more here. There are many different types of support groups, and if one is not the right fit for you, check the online directory, Support Group Project, to find other options in your community.

How to Use

Type in the zip code, city or state in which you are interested in finding a group.

The results will display the day and time of the meeting, the location with a map and any notes about how to access a meeting room or to whom the group is open. If you have questions call 1-888-425-2666.

Who Should Use

Anyone that is interested in finding a support group that focuses on the family members of adults and adolescents who are addicted to alcohol may find this resource helpful including parents and family members of young adolescents (12-16); older teens/young adults (17-25); and of adult children.

Community Resource Information

While research about the specific benefits for parents who participate in support groups to cope with their adolescents’ drug or alcohol use does not exist, there are multiple publications and citations that reference the importance of support groups for people concerned about another person’s substance use, as well as for parents caring for a child with a chronic illness, including the following:

Timko C, et al. Social processes explaining the benefits of Al-Anon participation. Journal of the Society of Psychologists in Addictive Behaviors. (2015). 29(4):856-63.
